Jury applauds sustainable closed loop manufacturing system of the future.
IDSTEIN, Germany (June 22, 2023) – Jack Wolfskin, a leading provider of outdoor performance apparel, footwear and equipment based in Idstein, Germany, was honored on June 21 with the EUROBIKE Award 2023 for its innovative Bike Commute 2.5 Jkt W. The award is a renowned distinction for innovative and high-quality products from the bicycle and future mobility industry. The judging criteria for the award are: Degree of innovation, functionality, sustainability, design, processing quality and material selection.
The Bike Commute 2.5 Jkt W is equipped with many cycling-specific details and features a sustainable material innovation with a “textile-to-textile” manufacturing process that sets a new milestone in the performance apparel sector for a future closed loop system. The outer material is made from worn garments and textile cuttings and is recyclable. The membrane of the jacket is made from cuttings left over from the manufacturing process and returned to the production cycle – a zero-waste concept.
The jury states the following arguments for its decision: “With the Bike Commute 2.5L Jkt W rain jacket, outdoor specialist JACK WOLFSKIN combines maximum comfort, sophisticated functionality and chic, timeless aesthetics with sustainability. For this, the manufacturer does not rely on textiles made from recycled PET bottles, but goes a big step further with the use of specially recycled materials, which in the future will enable a closed cycle of recyclable materials. An exemplary as well as contemporary zero-waste strategy that has been translated into a highly attractive product with the Bike Commute 2.5L Jkt W rain jacket.”
